Healing of the heart

My life’s testimony so far has contained an incredible amount of healing: both emotional (which I‘ve briefly written about before) and physical (the back injury which I suffered from for over a year disappeared in an instant through prayer ministry).

So, when I went to another healing service recently, I joked to the friend I was with that ‘I think I’ve had my fair share of healing this year’. My mistake! There is no ‘fair share’, because the healing power of our omnipotent God is unending.

We ALL have wounds – whether they be from our parents, our peers or even ourselves. Whether we recognise them or not, God knows they’re there. As a father longs to take away His daughter’s pain, God’s greatest desire is to take away our suffering – sometimes suffering we no longer acknowledge because we’ve spent years hardening ourselves to its existence as a way of coping.

He’s a God who offers the deepest cleansing of the soul, but He’s also a God who offers freedom. He won’t heal if you don’t truly want him to, and give Him permission to. It’s so easy to slip into the mindset of being stuck with life’s problems, but today I encourage you to hand them over, totally and completely, to the One who suffered excruciating pain on the cross so as to absorb the excruciating pain in your heart, knowing that He will not let you down in your time of need.

‘By His wounds, you have been healed.’ 1Peter 2:24

Don’t put limitations on your expectations of God. He is bigger. He is greater. He is infinitely more powerful. Those adjectives don’t even need an object of comparison – bigger THAN… – because there is nothing in this world that even comes close. Pray for His presence and expect Him to turn up.

‘For the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not abandon or destroy you.’ Deut. 4:31

I’ve known so many people who have walked away from radical healing services, having witnessed the most impossible things happening and seen the most concrete prove of God existence and love humanly possible, and yet still doubted or disregarded His power because “nothing happened” for them. God works in His time, we have only to open ourselves up to Him in the faith that He will work.

Healing isn’t always visible. It doesn’t have to mean a tumour shrinking before your eyes, or the lame leaping up and walking for the first time in years. It can be so much subtler, so much more intricate, so much more personal. He sees the pattern of wounds we have built up over years of relationships with others, and through our relationship with ourselves. A pattern which no other person on earth has collected, and therefore a pattern which no researched solution can fix. Only Jesus.

So, above all, set your eyes on the One who has prepared a place for you away from this world, and away from all earthly suffering, where He promises He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ (Rev. 21:4). He intended earth to be that place. He stills yearns to make earth a little closer to that place for you each day. Call out to Him in your brokenness, for we are all broken. Allow Him to reveal the wounds of your heart, and in His time repair them.
